The direct, honest approach is best. I always appreciate it when people walk up and say what they have to say. The worst thing they can do is tell you thanks but I'm not interested in selling right now.
When the same car/person repeatedly drives by my place slowly and then maybe starts taking pictures a time or two, that's usually when I reach for my .357.
