I installed a 1988 700R4 in my truck recently using the stock crossmember and a stock two-bolt mount. I had to slide the crossmember back a few inches, and had to drill new mounting holes in the upper and lower portions of the chassis. I ended up trimming about 3/8" off the front edge of the crossmember to allow a deep pan to fit. The older 700R4 tailshaft housings have the mount location farther back which is nice because it gets the crossmember away from the pan.
