You won't shock yourself. You could set your vehicle on fire, but that's unlikely. Short of doing that, I think the worst outcome would be making a bad connection that causes an intermittent problem, like no spark or something. Frustrating as hell! Careful work, and protectiing wires from rubbing and sharp edges should take care of that.
