Welcome to the board.
There are a few easy things to check in your steering before you replace your box. When I bought my blazer the steering was bad too...Like 2 lanes bad. It was a combonation of the rag joint, the steering box, and two ball joints. After the rag joint and the ball joints were replaced, I was able to live with a little slop in the box. Have someone in the cab turn the wheel as you look around underneath for what may be causing the problem.
