Alex it looks like you have a latch/striker problem not a body shim problem. The shimming of the body will move the door gaps around (ie front ,back,bottom) If you close the door and have the door go too far into the body the latch set-up would be where I would start.... Btw no weather strip could also cause the door to travel too far inward. Good luck and keep us posted..
