The ECE brackets are not shown for 73-87 but they will fit. Yes you could make your own, or bolt direct to the frame like I suggested. The ECE brackets are cheap enough that you may as well buy them unless you have nothing better to do than build your own. I'm sure it wouldn't take but 2-3 tries to get it right....
