After checking the mounting distance a second time, I came up with 41 3/4" on my truck. This is 2" shorter than original. The spring measures 43 3/4" with the truck sitting on the ground. Thanks again Stocker, this explains the fact that your shackle is straight up and down.

With all this having been said, I have began the process of moving the brackets to the proper factory location. The cast iron brackets do have a GM part # on them and I would be happy to forward this along to anyone interested.

Does anyone know the diameter of the hole through the frame where the bracket mounts?

The O.D. of the cast iron piece is slightly tapered and just over 1 1/2". I sort of remember seeing about 1/16" clearance around the the piece on original trucks.
