My fan currently sits totally within the throat of the shroud (the rear end of the blades are about 1" from the rear of the shroud). I am replacing a 3 core with a 4 core radiator and this will bring the fan further inside the shroud.

I read somewhere that the fan should have blades outside of the shroud about 1 inch for best performance. Is this true?
