Both sizes work on the sbc. My truck, with the 300 hp 350, had a factory 8" balancer on it. The bigger balancer is supposed to do a better job of damping. I switched mine out for a 6-3/4" Streetdampr, which should be better than an old 8" with dried-out rubber.

You will need a different timing pointer. I got an adjustable and set it after degreeing the cam.
