1407 Is a 750 Edelbrock, and the funny thing with those is they dump gas and the basic 1406 is pretty lean for most engines outta the box. Side note the manual operated choke models run a tad richer than the electronic choke ones.
1406 isn't that bad and they can be messed with to get right, just like any other carb. But I just like the Quadrajet myself, I even though I have a 1406 on mine right now. I need to fix the quadrajet to get the 4 barrel working right. Sucks on the highway with 2 small barrels and trying to pass someone.
