I just want to say sorry if I botched anything up.I was going on common knowledge. This is the first I`ve heard of pre-69 caps designed for nubs.I can see by the lip that they are.I`ve learned something new.GM must have started using the`69-style wheels near the end of`68 and made caps to fit.Sales were booming more with each model year, possibly exhausting parts supplies sending GM scrambling for new orders. That would also explain the difference in the two pairs of 3/4t caps Frank has.It would also explain why there was so much N.O.S. available for 20+ years. It only depleted because the trucks became collectible and big vendors like GoldenState went around and bought it up.
