A good mechanic should be able to bend you a hard line right to the carb, flare it and connect it with a short piece of hose.

You could also go with -6AN braided hose and fittings. Buy the chrome line and filter from Edelbrock, then cut and connect the hose from the pump to the filter.

Tell me what kind of fuel pump your using and I'll tell you what you'll need.

I have my throttle rod in the same location. I'm not aware that it makes a difference other than pedal feel. It would feel more responsive in the upper hole only because it pulls the linkage back easier. As long as it's adjusted to get WOT with all your pedal, it's fine where it is.
