If it is a rebuilt unit, you'll be ready to go when it is installed. If you buy a used one, be aware that there are a couple of components that are replaceable, when bad. The module and the capacitor that is attached to it, can go bad and your engine will die and not start until replaced. If and when you replace the module, be sure you use the correct heat sink compound that will be in the box with the module.

Other than that, you'll love the lack of maintenance required, compared to points-type.

You'll have to install new plug wires....for a '76 and up V-8.
