454 crank and 396 block but pistons will be custom and expensive. A 396 crank and 454 block. The 396 uses the same crank as a 427 and the 427 and 454 have the same block. Score your self a 454 block and build the 427. I picked up a 69 passenger car 427 for my truck. Summit has a forged piston overhaul kit for less than $600. Another option is just punch the 396 and build a 402. A good running 402 will be a blast in the truck. Another advantage with the 427 is it is internally balanced so you won't have to get another balancer or flexplate/flywheel. The 454 HO is a smokin' deal though. 500# ft of torque and 8.5;1 compression. Hydraulic roller cam, forged pistons, steel crank, 4 bolt block and a 1 year warranty. If you have the $ up front, that's what I would do. I'm broke...
