your in for a fair bit of work, always have a shop manual to give you an idea of what kind of work your in for it describes every detail. sound like the guy didnt use very good gaskets or they have never been touched, and there dryed out, i found silicone everywhere on my orignal truck engine and I wont even begin to tell you about the shoddy electrical. basically gaskets are fairly simple to swap, just got to get right gaskets and good clean contact on bothsides of part. main seals you need a or hoist for best job. headgaskets require intake to come off and the need best seal of all. remember at least if you change the part you can trust your own work or the mechanics warranties. a chevy is always worth it
