I just used weather strip adhesive (rubber cement). From pealing off the old stuff, it appears the factory used something black. It may have even been an adhesive strip or tape of some kind.

I had to use some Gorilla Snot (super weatherstrip adhesive) in a few places because the rubber cement wasn't holding well enough.
