The difference between the 67-70 and 71-72 tanks is the earlier ones used a vented gas cap. The 71-72 tanks used a vent tube on the filler neck. Mine was made for the 67-70's. The filler neck was just stuck in and saudered without being checked for quality. I stood my original tank next to the new one and I could tell a big difference between the angle of the neck. I had to stick a shovel handle in the neck and bend it back and it still isn't straight. I didn't want to bend it much further in fear of breaking the sauder weld. I think I broke it any way because it smells like gas if I drive on a bumpy or curvy road or if I fill it up past 3/4 tank.
