The 292 L6 required its own unique [almost diagonal] crossmember in 4wd only. The C/series could use the regular frame rails. 292s have an off-center mount configuration -- GM moved the passenger-side motor mount forward, maybe to counteract the greater torque of the 292 (?) -- the fuel pump went to the center where the motor mount was on the 230/250s. The smaller L6s had symmetrical mounts. On the 2wd the more forward right hand mount can connect to the frame rails, on the 4wd, it needs a special crossmember.
