I knew a guy who was a little absent minded in welding class. He used to scratch his forehead with a red hot electrode because he said the shield strap was itchy.

I've set myself on fire a few times. You just have to be aware of what burning clothes smell like. Oh, and if you own one of those red/black cheapo hunting jackets? Keep it well away from the welding area. I seen one go up FAST while hanging on a wall 20 ft. away. A little bit of weld spatter and whoosh!
