The choke is a spring that is warmed and it uncurls as it gets warmer. The choke wire on a lot of the mid eighties trucks ran through a switch on the driver's side of the motor and after it reached a good oil pressure the switch opens. That takes away the power to the choke. On a lot of aftermarket installs of the edelbrock carbs the choke is connected to a wire from the ignition circuit, so that it is on when the key is on. There is nothing inside the choke itself that opens the circuit after it gets warm. I think that you need to find the original choke wire and connect it to the carb, if you want the choke light to go out.
