they make covers that go behind the wheel and act as a shield. basically you can no longer get brake dust past that onto the visible part of the wheels.

then there's drums and those are your choices.

you can coat your rims with stuff to prevent brake dust from ruining your wheels, or buy wheels with no holes like my centerlines (click my pink name to the left to view a pic in my public profile)

there's nothing you can do to stop brake dust from happening, it's a bi-product of the pads slowly falling apart

you can stop it from forming in such large quantities with light braking and constant car washes.
