on your '72 are you talking about an aftermarket cable linkage, or one from a different vehicle? i've only seen the pivot brackets. i had a b&m quicksilver floor shifter on my '61 apache 10 when i was in high school. the cable linkage sucked. i had to trust whatever dopey passenger i had to not kill me while i crawled under the truck to get it in park. it took me a while to fix things back then. if i were you i'd grab the pivot assembly. i use 1/2 of a spark plug boot and a cotter pin to keep mine secure.
