Re: Just how bad are the brakes of 67-70's c10?

Both of my older trucks have the manual drum brakes. Now they are hardly ever fully loaded, but with normal pedal pressure, you can easily lock the front brakes and with a little more pressure, lock all 4 wheels. Now once the wheels are locked I don't think it makes any diffference whether you have disks or drums. The brakes are 11x2 which is pretty good size IMHO.

Now if you are going to haul 2-3000 pounds of stuff in the back or pull a trailer, or drive a lot of hills and mountains, disks WILL be better. But just crusin an empty truck will won't make much difference IMHO.

Now if you want to talk about something that REALLY needs disks brakes, I used to own a 67 and a 68 big block chevelle. With a 140 mph top end, if you had to slow down fast, these only had a 9 inch drum up front IIRC, and really needed disk brakes.
