The control valve is not the same as the gear box. What is being discussed here is the type of power steering system that uses a hydraulic cylinder mounted on the steering center link, with a control valve where the Pitman arm attaches to the center link. It was used until mid-'68 on trucks, but was also used on Corvettes until '82.
