I agree with this, whole heartedly.
On my '69, which came new with the upper and lower side trim, I plan to remove both. If forced to have any trim on it, I'd prefer the '68 trim, even though I have a '69. But, I won't remove one type, to install another. Instead, I'll just pull it all, fill the holes and go on with my painting plan.
