Did they make an 81 and later dash with a tach? I mounted a tach from Autometer on my "A" pillar above the instrument panel to solve my tach problem. The mounting uses the screw hole that is already there and a flat aluminum strap cut to fit tight against the windshield rubber gasket to hold it solid. There is one screw that goes through the strap and holds it against the pillar at the mounting hole and then the tach mounts onto the strap just above the dash pad. Thsi all can be removed and the pillar will not be damaged.
