Well since you want to feel it in here is what I would do. ( My Opinion) 57 stone has a 100% compaction and would be less work then tamping the dirt fill in lifts of 16" to 24". Bust some drain holes in the bottom of the pool and fill with the stone up to about 2' below ground level and then put a filter fabric over the stone then come in with some fill, topsoil and animal fertilizer mix and you would have a great garden area.
