They are diffrent. An amp meter is hooked up to the alternator. Amp meters are dangerous (thats why people don't use them any more. they use Volt meters instead). An amp meter needs to have that large wire comming from the alternator comming through the fire wall. If there is ever a short, you have major car fire / meltdown! I wouldn't use it. Just my opinion. They do have a shunt system (for safety), however, I still wouldn't use one. Sorry I don't have details on exactly what wire goes where. Darren
