The bottom on my '72 C10 burb's coils have the flat/straight part of the spring toward the front. Precisely, in fact. I'm the second owner. Pretty sure the springs were never removed before.

Never thought of the direction of the flat part before until this thread. Thinking about it, I wonder if the flat/straight part has to be forward facing because the trailing arms angle up a little at the spring mount and the flat/straight part will clear or otherwise fit the trailing arm better that way. I need to take a closer look.
