Pretty much all depends on the set up, whether it's stock or modified but more so what it has for option's. (I'm thinking your talking stock)
If it came factory with open differentials then you'll do no better/worse than any other 4x4 of the era with the same set up, having a factory posi would make all the difference.
Then there's tranny option's, gears...ect.
Our trucks are pretty wide/heavy on the trail, that would play into it all as well.
Of course then there's driver error (make or brake) and 'fish' tales too.
You have to separate fact from fiction during most off road stories if you know what I'm sayin'.
