How about this. Eliminate the rag. And use a little one gallon gas jug with a small piece of 1/4 inch hose or whatever size it is. But the hose down in the gas, prime the carb and fire it up. It may take a couple tries of priming it, but eventually it should suck up some fuel. Also, I would crack the line loose at the carb, when it starts to seep from the line at the carb you know you have fuel, then if the motor runs using the gallon jug, making sure there is at least some gas in the tank hook the tank line back up and see if it'll continue to get fuel. ALSO PLEASE NOTE. Check the fuel filter, I had one on my old '77 4wd, plug up plum solid and wouldnt let nothin thru. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
