My Dad bought this a couple of years ago, did some minor body work, then had the paint touched up. Since then, it has sat in his shop with the bed off, engine needing tuned up, and a minor tranny leak. I decided yesterday to forgo working on my chassis, and take advantage of him being gone to go "steal" it and finish it for him for Fathers Day!
My son (6yo) was VERY excited to help me work on Papa's truck. We got the bed back in place and bolted down, installed the new rear bumper, and installed the stainless steel bed caps, tailgate cap, and front panel cap. We then fixed the tranny leak then moved on to the engine. Turns out the vacuum advance was connected to manifold vacuum, and the timing was way off on top of that. Ran a new vacuum hose to where it should be, adjusted the timing and idle speed, and now it's a happy truck!
We left it in the driveway, and when we saw him drive by, we waited for a phone call. That only took a couple of minutes to get! He was VERY excited! So excited in fact, that he wanted to take my Mom to town to get some ice cream, but then realized that the tags had expired in
July 2004!
Yeah, it's been awhile since he has driven it, but I noticed this morning he was out washing it. I have a feeling it will get some miles on it this summer.
Here are some pics I took before "returning" it. The clear looks like it is flaking off in the third pic (red, on the corner of the cab), but that is just a reflection of the clouds. The paint is actually very nice!
It is a 72 C20 Camper Special, 402/400, A/C.
Enjoy, and Happy Fathers Day!!!!
