Re: Small truck fuel mileage

I got about 29-30 with the combo weasel has with the AC.Somewhat underpowered for the TX plains where I lived at the time.It didn't like a headwind of over about 35-40 mph.and would have to be downshifted to 4th.That would drop the milage to about 20.I had a 90 Dakota and with the 3.9 I got about 25-26 with the air and an auto.I have a 2000 Dakota and it does about 18 around town and 21-23 on the hiway depending on AC and speed. All three, very reliable rides. The S-10 went 140,000 before I had to do much to it then it was a clutch and alternator. The 90 Dakota was totaled at about 60,000 miles with no repairs at all only brakes and oil changes. The 2000 has about 75,000 and has had brakes. It also had a control arm under warranty.
My F-I-L got about 26 in his GMC s-10 4X4 auto.86 model with the 4.3.I would look for the larger engine if I was using it for any hiway stuff or wanted to carry a topper or much in it.
