Finally. Took it to Ottawa KS Aug 3rd and the guy finished painting it this week. He got laid off 2-3 weeks ago so he had lots of time to get on it to he moved real quick here at the end, otherwise we wouldn't be getting it tomorrow yet. He hadn't gotten far while he was working and he farms also. Since he needed the money hes chargeing us for labor to $1100 total compared to the $500-600 he had originally told he (but not definite) for just paint and such. He's still not chargeing what he normally does most people. Most of the painters around here wanted $2000 or more. (by the way... he was a construction pipe fitter) (My brother is also a pipe fitter and does HVAC and works on the big AC/Heat units and recently had to change jobs because of not enough work at his old company )
I believe that he is just useing regular old enamel or thats what we had agreed on it August. Going back to original ochre/white
I have read that I should wait 90-120 days to wax it and a week to wash. Is that true? What should I do to take care of it before that time? Without wax would it be bad idea to take it on the snow/ice when it there is salt on the roads... beings its unprotected.
Tell you how the 95 mile trip back goes with it and hopefully have some pics up in the next week or so. I hope its what I expected. He said it turned out good. Only problem is in 2 places where the paint ran because it doesn't stick to the tape like it does that metal.... but thats where the upper trim will go when I can afford the $500 for Upper and Lower trim. He said he smoothed it and you couldn't tell it unless you knew it was there and felt of it.
Beings its my grandpa's old truck hes about as excited as I am to see it back home. Probably the first time it had left the county in 10 years and hadn't been moved 8 years before April 2001 when we began work on it.
