Believe me, headers do get hot. I have had them glow in the dark when I was running the engine on a "cold Idle" with the choke plate partially shut. The trick is to get the timing set and then work on your fuel mixtures. What have you done to this lately? Have you changed anything out, carb, distributor, or even air filter assembly? What is your timing set at and what are your idle screws set at now?
