Going from past experience, I can tell you that it could be wiring trouble anywhere in the truck. I once pinched some brake light wires when I reinstalled my rear bumper. Got into the next town and while sitting at a red light, smoke started coming out of the column. Rather than just blow a fuse, it melted the wires going into the column first!

Did you do any work prior to this happening? If so, check in that area first.
