Are you sure your grill is chrome and not aoidizied aluminum????? Better make sure....And I would use a 2k epoxy primer instead if the self etch...I am not sure if the "old school" etch primer can be sprayed on aluminun like epoxy.(ppg dplf).....I would LIGHTLY sand blast to roughen up the surface....
Lightly means just enough to dull up the surface....No more....Lightly....
Epoxy sticks to anything.......
