Yeah, flip kits are popular. They are convenient and relatively less inexpensive. A few have used lowering springs only to resort to a flip kit in the end. With a flip kit, you won't have to mess with the shackles or hangers to get the 6" drop.
You could get under the truck and measure the clearance between the axle and the frame rail on both sides. If they're the same, you can go with a flip kit without replacing the springs. If not, you can still go with a flip kit and add a spacer to make up for the difference.
