Yes you can use the 86 engine in your truck. I have an 88 engine in my 69. The blocks are the same physically. You need to use the rams horn manifolds or headers. If you get an injected engine you can swap to a carb by swapping the intakes. You may have to mod the 2 center manifold bolt holes on each side of the stock intake as the later models are drilled straight up. No big deal. I have an Edel performer intake on mine with stock quadrajet and headers.
