My questions:
I've heard that with the correct output shaft on a 700r4, it would bolt right back up to the NP-205 t-case without some fancy adapter that costs more than the 'burb did.
Next, I'm thinking of a 4l60E or a 4l80E. I'd love to use a 4L80E, but what are the requirements for these transmissions. What computer do I need, does anyone make a computer for the tranny by itself? Has anyone done it?
Thanks for the help guys.

Alrighty...
The adapters to take any GM transmission under the sun into a NP205 case is from
Advance Adapters (there's a whole load of places in the Phoenix area that are distributors for them) and you're looking at 150+ for most of those parts. There may be a way to do it the way you're talking, but I don't know it.
As far the 4L80E, save up your pennies as they're pretty expensive. You'd ned the computer out of the vehicle you salvaged.
While I'm not sure if anyone makes a standalone computer, there's probably a good chance that
Jet Performance makes one as they're pretty good at making stuff to retrofit new trannys to old cars.
