You have to remove the whole lock out assy to get to the goods
Not just the cover.
My socket is a Snap On one so the Part # will be different But mine has 4 lugs on it, the socket for the 14 Full floater has 6 and is bigger around than the D44 one.
The front socket is 2 3/8" wide.
It sounds like you have the socket for a rear axle.
If you have a 14 bolt full floater keep it, if you have a semi floating one then take it back.
