Not very uncommon, the 6.2 diesel was available in half tons through the early 90's as an option. If you are used to small block gas motors, you will be very disappointed. It would be like having a 4cyl in your fullsize. Fuel mileage is the only rel upside of the 6.2, they are slow and rated well under the smallblock in power and torque. You will hear both sides of the fence on reliability and wear. I know of a couple with 300k + on them.
Basically if you like diesels, they are OK, if you do not like diesels, stay far away from the 6.2.
