My worn drag link ends on my stock push/pull steering setup caused a similar issue (the vague wandering)....could be slop in the steering box too....or alignment (toe in/out) or a bad set of tires...

Understeer is more of a behaviour at the limits of cornering....the front end wants to continue to go straight in a corner, even though the steering wheel is asking it to turn.

A front sway bar will add some "crispness" to your turning, and for quick transitions from left to right. The wandering sounds like some other issue that you need to sort out separately though...
