Get a "piston stop" i think they're called.You screw it into the #1 spark plug hole and then carefully by hand turn the engine until #1 piston just hits the stop.Make a mark. Then turn the engine back the other way until #1 piston just hits the stop.Make another mark.The point exactly in between these two marks is true TDC.
