Yes pull the visors off of the rods and then squeeze the spring steel material inside to get a tighter fit. The three inch rod is for the outer end of the visors. A lot of the older trucks had a plastic hook mounted for the rod to sit in when the visors were aligned to the windshield. This kept the damn things from hanging down in your face.

Thats what I was thinking, b/c I ordered the whole setup and ended up with 2 extra of the 3 inch rods.
