Actually, I have seen the ac pump on both sides of the engine. My 79, has a radial compressor on the passenger side. My uncles 79 has a axial compressor on the drivers side. I am also pretty sure that most diesel pickups cam with the TH400 to handle the torque of the diesel, but I could be wrong. All three of the ex-diesel trucks we have have TH400.
