My thought would be to use the 4x4 long bed frame, shorten it by 12" and cut 8" off the rear. All of your short bed sheet metal should fit your reworked frame. I believe the bed mounts would have to be addressed as well as shortening the drive shaft.

Trying to remount the springs from the long bed to the short bed frame seems like a job!
