Re: want to know

According to the Chilton Manual I have,

Adjust the bearing by rotating the hub and tightening the inner adjusting nut to 50 ft/lbs, then loosening it and retightening to 35 ft/lbs. Next, back the nut off 3/8ths turn or less. Turn the nut to the nearest hole in the lockwasher. Install te outer locknut and torque to a minimum of 160-205 ft/lbs for 1981 and later 1/2ton and 3/4ton models. There should be .001-.010 in end play.

I left out the specs for the 1980 models and the 1 tons. I'm still looking for the Haynes manual my friend and I use...I like that manual better. I think it may be at his house because he has a similar problem with his 76 K5 Blazer. The driver side wheel bearing failed and by the time he got it off the road it had welded itself. After some cutting and grinding he got that bearing off and replaced it. A few months later the replacement bearing ( it was a cheap made in china POS) failed so he replaced that one, but the hub still gets warms. I found a couple hubs in the wrecking yard and he's going to replace the hub on the blazer and install new bearings...one of these days.
