This engine original came in dump trucks, school busses and other medium duty applications. There are built for durability and low end torque and are unwilling to rev much past 4000RPM. The pistons are taller to accommodate an extra ring, thus the tall deck height. They are very tough motors and will last a long time and have lots of stump pulling power, but thats about it. The heads on these motors are not great for making upper RPM power either.

For an engine swap, I would not pursue it just because you could probably do better with a well built 350, 383, 400 small block or even just a standard 396, 454, etc. big block.
