How does your top speed compare to the old trans when you stay out of the OD? The .7 OD may be removing the required torque it took to get the ol' sheet steel cinderblock to cut through the air at top speed. You ARE losing 30% of your torque when in overdrive.

Flywheel can only affect the acceleration of your motor, but top speed will be at a consistant engine RPM.
